Welcome to the SAGEMAP website, a product of the
NBII Great Basin Information Project.
This site is a portal for spatial data needed for research and
management of sage grouse and shrubsteppe systems. The site is
dynamically changing as we update current information and
incorporate new data. Therefore, subsequent visits will reveal new
data. Visit often to see what new data layers are available! |

| Sage-grouse Local Working Group Locator
|
The Sage-grouse Local Working Group (LWG)
Locator is a web-based, geographically-linked database that describes
Local Working Groups and what types of projects and conservation
efforts have been identified in their area. The LWG Locator provides
a central resource for LWGs and interested stakeholders to facilitate
greater connectivity and information exchange throughout the region.

The Literature
Synthesis of Livestock Grazing Management Literature Addressing Grazing
Management for Greater Sage-Grouse Habitat in the Wyoming Basin - Southern
Rocky Mountains Ecoregions is now available. This is a synthesis
of the literature review located below. This document is not intended to
be an all-inclusive guide to grazing management in sage-grouse habitat,
but rather an information reference that sage-grouse local working groups
and land managers may utilize as they develop recommended grazing practices
for promoting the conservation of sage-grouse and sagebrush habitats.
The literature review of
livestock grazing effects on sagebrush ecosystems for the Reference Synthesis of Livestock Grazing Management Literature Addressing Grazing Management for Sage-Grouse Habitat project is now available. This is an information reference that sage-grouse local working groups and land managers may utilize as they develop recommended grazing practices for promoting the conservation of sage-grouse and sagebrush habitats.

DATA |
JUST COMPLETED! and ready
for download: Current Distribution of Sagebrush
and Associated Vegetation in the Southwest and Columbia Plateau Regions The new regional
landcover dataset is now available clipped to state (Idaho, Oregon, and Washington) and Mapping Zone boundaries. Visit the "Shrub Map" home page or just view the
complete metadata.
NEW DATA! We just
added over 34 gigabytes of satellite imagery (TM and MSS)
to the SAGEMAP database courtesy of the USGS Geography discipline.
Access the imagery via the
Data Query page.
As always, data on the FTP site is organized by State (or
'Regional') and then by source (USGS, in this instance).

classification is part of the U.S. National Vegetation
Classification System of the International Classification
of Ecological Communities. The sagebrush classification
system was developed by vegetation ecologists from NatureServe,
in collaboration with scientists from the U.S. Bureau
of Land Management, USDA Forest Service, US Geological
Survey, California Natural Diversity Program, Wyoming
Natural Diversity Database, Idaho Conservation Data Center,
and the Natural Heritage Programs of Colorado, Montana,

DOWNLOAD DATA ( 33.6 MB)
|
| The map includes the current
distribution of 10 sagebrush vegetation types from eastern
WA, OR, and CA, through central CO, and eastern WY and
MT. The map, created by scientists from The Nature Conservancy
and NatureServe, is intended to provide broad-scale perspective
on sagebrush and related vegetation distribution across
the Intermountain West for use in regional habitat assessments.
As such, the map clarifies what currently exists with
readily available data. |
