  Description:
    Abstract: Recent research on greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) genetics has helped identify some important characteristics.  Genetic techniques are currently being used to investigate relationships among species, populations, family groups, and individuals.  This figure demonstrates the phylogram for the Greater sage-grouse.
    Purpose:
      This figure diagrams the phylogram of mitochondrial DNA haplotypes for the Greater Sage-grouse.
      This dataset was created for the Conservation Assessment for Greater Sage-grouse and Sagebrush Habitats.

      Process_Description: Authors used greater sage-grouse phylogram from Kahn et al. 1999.  Kahn's study sequenced 141 base pairs of mtDNA from 20 individual birds.  The study revealed the difference in number of haplotypes (the genetic difference) in greater sage-grouse and Gunnison sage-grouse.
