The USGS announced the early release of these chapters on November 4, 2009:

Sage-Grouse Conservation: A Major Challenge in the West

Thirty-eight federal, state, university, and nongovernmental experts have collaborated to produce new scientific information about Greater Sage-Grouse populations, sagebrush habitats, and relationships among sage-grouse, sagebrush habitats, and land use. The information will be formally published as a scientific monograph in the series Studies in Avian Biology under the management of the Cooper Ornithological Society. The publisher for the monograph will be the University of California Press.

The 24 chapters released on this web site have been accepted for publication by the Cooper Ornithological Society. Release of the chapters is occurring under special arrangements with the authors, the Cooper Ornithological Society, and the University of California Press. No waiver of proprietary rights to the information is granted by this release on the part of the Cooper Ornithological Society, the University of California Press, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), or the authors of the chapters. Final versions of the chapters will include editorial changes that will not influence technical content. A summary chapter also will be added when completed. Information about the availability of the monograph when it is published will be available on USGS and University of California Press web sites.
